Beautiful evening for Rookies tonight. Tonight will be our last official Rookies with the trailer. It's getting dark around 7pm these days. Let's make the most of it!

Get your paddle in this week even though last night the weather did not cooperate. Tonight (Tuesday 8/27) a group of rookie paddlers and leaders from EU and the Loppet are going out on Rice Creek at 6pm. No boats provided but if you have a boat or have a friend that does it will be a good opportunity to work on paddling a small river - at perfect water level! - with a like-minded group.

Looks like it will be good, hot weather for Rookies tomorrow night. Bring a change of clothes and a towel if you want to work on self rescue/assisted rescue. Summer is winding down but the water is still warm :)

Rookies tonight! Bring lots of water and a change of clothes. It will be humid and we'll have the opportunity to work on getting back in the boat if you flip. Also, this Thursday is New Racer Stock Boat night at the Hoigaards Paddle Derby. Talk to Emily at Rookies tonight or email president@mncanoe.org if you plan to race. Let's represent!

August 1st Hoigaards Paddle Derby! You don't want to miss it! If you plan to do even one canoe race this year this should be it. The Hoigaards Paddle Derby runs for 10 weeks on Thursday evenings in the summer and August 1st is a special date because it will be the Twin Cities Paddle Team Challenge :) If you race on that evening your time will count towards the Rookies team points vs other new paddlers from the Loppet, Endurance United and Vakava racing team. (If you happen to be involved with Rookies and one of these other teams we'll try and figure out which team it will make sense for you to be on so that the teams can be as even and competitive as possible.) If you planning to (or even thinking of doing) the races email president@mncanoe.org and let me know if you need a partner and or boat. No partner or boat necessary. You're welcome to find your own partner but we will also match people up with more experienced paddlers. This will be a stock boat race (Jensen 18 type boats). The course is about 5.5 miles long. Race starts at 6:45pm but be there at 5:45pm. Thomas Beach at the south end of Bde Mka Ska. $20 entry fee/person. There will also be a potluck afterward so plan to bring something and hang out and meet other paddlers. Can't wait to see you all there!

On another note: The Yukon 1000 canoe race starts tomorrow (Friday 7/12) at 9:30am central time. You can follow Team Broderson (Representing Rookies!) on the online race tracker at https://teammap.net/yukon1000/2024/race.html. The race will probably take us about a week to complete.

Super last minute but if you want to do a canoe race tonight the Hoigaards Paddle Derby starts at 6:45pm at Thomas Beach on the south end of Bde Mka Ska. The MCA Jensen 18s will be there and you are welcome to use one. Just bring a partner. Race entry fee is $15 and the course is somewhere around 5 miles long.

Rookies tonight is on. The last Rookies before the Mississippi River Races! Also, the MMCA board is meeting at the Rookies parking lot at 5pm for a meeting. It's open to everyone. Come early to join the fun and see what we're up to :)
