Marine on St. Croix's Fifth Annual Paddle Craft Boat Show will be held on Tuesday, July 8, in Burris Park. Please bring a canoe/kayak/boat, etc. and a friend. Set up at 4:00, show from 5:00 to 8:00.
Calvin Rutstrum (1895 - 1982), an American wilderness camping writer who lived in Marine on St. Croix in the 1960’s, will be highlighted this year with readings and artifacts.
We’re looking forward to seeing friends and acquaintances.
If you’re bringing a boat, please fill out the attached boat description form.
While we never know how many or what boats will show up, in past years we’ve had the following crafts and around 30+ boats:
• Polar explorer Ann Bancroft’s Birchbark Canoe
• 1890s: Canadian Canoe Company cedar strip
• 1960 Peterborough Handy Boy runabout
• 1999 Norwest 18' freight canoe
• 1999 Chestnut 16’ Moonlight (built by Ken Solway and Cathy Graves on a Chestnut form c.1920)
• Chesapeake Sea Kayak
• Wood strip paddle board by Cal Stenso
• B. N. Morris canoe
• 20’ Templeton
• Wilderness Inquiry 24’ Stripper Voyageur canoes
• 24’ St. Croix River Bateau, a working boat, a replica of a bateau at the Washington County, MN Historical Society.
• Gene Jensen cedar strip 18' - 2 person racing canoe
• 8’ Styrofoam kayak
Marine on St. Croix has a St. Croix River public access, so a paddle before/during/after the event is an option.
We’re collaborating with the Marine Community Library in hosting the event.
Hoping to see you on July 8.
